As heard on the Pinnacle 106.7 Fm and WEKY 92.5 Fm the Lady Pirates claimed an early season win over district rival Madison Central.
Indians get the opening points of the game from Jekauri McKeithen as her jumper is good but a quick three pointer from Madison Howell put the Pirates on top and they take a three point lead into the break. Alexiss Newman led the team with 10 points at the break.
Second half saw the lady Pirates score the first three points of the half and extend their lead to six points. Lady Indians fight back and a three pointer from Brianna Bierbaum cut the lead to a point and a jumper from Gretchen Hammitt put visitors on top 32-31 with 2:25 left in the third quarter. A layup from Newman at the buzzer tied the game for the third time as the quarter expired.
The fourth quarter started with four quick points from Berea in less than a minute but another three pointer from Bierbaum makes it a one point game with just six minutes left in regulation. A technical foul called on the Indians bench with 1:11 allowed Berea to extend a two point lead into a four point advantage. Taleya Todd knocks down a jumper with eight seconds left to make it a three point game and that would end up being the final margin of victory.
Madison Howell led the Lady Pirates with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Newman finished with 14 points and a pair of steals, Isis Rodgers with 7 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Mackenzie Howell with 6 points and Abigail Beard with 5 points. The Lady Indians place two players in double figures scoring led by Taleya Todd’s 14 points. Bierbaum with 12 points, knocking down three 3 pointers, McKeithen with 6 points and 9 rebounds, Gretchen Hammitt with 6 points, Eve Carter adds 5 points and 5 rebounds, Brittany Campbell 3 points and Raelynn Miller with 2 points.
lady Indians fall to 1-5 on the season and return to action this Friday night at home during the Jack Burford Christmas Classic while Berea improves to 4-2 on the season and will play next on Thursday in Lexington at Tates Creek.
