Kingston Elementary Student Honored by Governor on Inauguration Day for Winning Poster Contest

A Madison County student was honored at Tuesdays gubernatorial inauguration ceremony in Frankfort.

Avery Boggs of Kingston Elementary was selected as a winner of a poster contest created by new Governor Andy Beshear and his wife, Britainy.

Students around the state were asked to submit posters that represent Kentuckians coming together to improve their communities and schools. Hundreds of entries were submitted, and Avery’s poster was selected as the winner of the 6-9 year old division.

Avery’s poster was focused on children. When asked about her inspiration, she said, “the most important part about Kentucky is the kids, so I made my poster about the kids.”

Directly after the official inauguration ceremony, all six poster winners were recognized in a ceremony inside the capitol building. The presentation was given by Governor Beshear, Lieutenant Governor Jaqueline Coleman, and Britainy Beshear. The group greeted and thanked each winner for their vision for the state of Kentucky. The posters created by the six winners will remain on display in the capitol for several days.
