Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a man on Monday afternoon, in connection to a previously reported crime.
The subject, Walter Earl Darling of Keavy, is accused of using his own personal vehicle with emergency lights to pull over the victim’s vehicle on Highway 192 on the night of September 4th, 2019. Darling was reportedly attempting to impersonate a peace officer.
Darling then allegedly entered the victim’s vehicle, and forced the victim to drive to an unknown location within the county where he attempted to sexually assault them. The victim managed to get away from the suspect and call 911 for help.
Darling was positively identified in a photo lineup, and reportedly admitted to investigators that he committed the aforementioned crimes on that night. The vehicle used to facilitate the crime has not been recovered yet.
Darling was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center where he was charged with 1st Degree Attempted Rape, 1st Degree Attempted Sodomy, 1st Degree Unlawful Imprisonment, and Impersonating a Peace Officer. Police say there are more arrests expected to be made in this case.
