After a dominant win over the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday, all signs point to the Kentucky Wildcats becoming bowl eligible next week after defeating UT-Martin. Not to be presumptuous, but that should be the Wildcats’ sixth win with a potential seventh victory against Louisville the following Saturday.
So with Kentucky sitting at fourth in the SEC East, what bowl destinations and match-ups could fans look forward to? Looking around the sports media landscape, there seem to be a lot of options.
Jerry Palm of CBS Sports projects Kentucky to play against TCU on New Year’s Eve in Memphis, TN. Perhaps even more fun for Kentucky fans is his prediction that Tennessee and Louisville may face off in the Music City Bowl the day before.
Kyle Bonagura and Mike Schlabach of ESPN have differing opinions. Schlabach puts Kentucky in the Music City bowl against the Miami Hurricanes, whereas Bonagura projects the Wildcats in the Texas Bowl against Oklahoma State.
Joe Tansey of Bleacher Report and Brad Crawford of 247Sports predict Kentucky will face off with the Virginia Cavaliers in the Music City Bowl. Brant Parsons of The Orlando Sentinel agrees with the bowl destination, but has the Wildcats listed to take on Wake Forest.
Bill Bender of Sporting News projects the Wildcats to the Independence Bowl for the first time, matching up against the Miami Hurricanes.
Perhaps the most noteworthy prediction at this point comes from Jason Kirk at BannerSociety.com, who believes Kentucky has a chance at facing Big 10 power Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl.
After losing their top three players at the quarterback position this season, making a bowl game and approaching seven or eight wins is a huge victory in my opinion. Regardless of the bowl destination, Big Blue Nation should be proud of this group of Wildcats and their accomplishments.
