Now that Big Blue Madness has come and gone, Kentucky Basketball fans will now move on to the next yearly tradition: The Blue-White game.

While Big Blue Madness is all about the pageantry and introductions, the intersquad scrimmage is where we really start to see the roles and skills of this year’s team.

The Wildcats welcome back a solid core of returners in sophomore guards Ashton Hagans and Immanuel Quickley, junior forward Nick Richards, and sophomore forward EJ Montgomery.

And as usual, Kentucky brings in one of the top recruiting classes in America, highlighted by a pair of top-15 recruits in forward Kahlil Whitney and guard Tyrese Maxey, both of whom are likely to earn starting roles.

While the rosters have not yet been released, rest assured that there will be some head-to-head matchups that fans are going to love. The stories about Ashton Hagans and Tyrese Maxey going at it have been intense.

The athleticism we will see between Kahlil Whitney and Keion Brooks should be impressive. And EJ Montgomery vs. Nick Richards may be the battle going on every day for a starting role.

But don’t discount Nate Sestina, who has been a sharpshooter in offseason workouts, the Pro Day, and at Big Blue Madness. His added shooting for a team where shooting is a question mark could earn him a starting role when the Wildcats face Michigan State in the Champions Classic.

This will also be the first opportunity we get to see from the new guys. John Calipari says this team will is full of incredible on-ball defenders, but he questions their toughness when things get physical. Perhaps we will get to witness some intense play so that we can get an idea of what he is talking about.

While we can’t take away too much from this game, it typically does have at least one foreshadowing of what a player is about to accomplish in the coming season. Last year, Tyler Herro erupted for 34 points in the Blue-White Game, and he went on to become one of the most lethal scorers in all of college hoops.

A large portion of the fanbase gets more excited about the Blue-White game than Big Blue Madness, and for good reason. This will be actual basketball played by guys in Kentucky uniforms. Read below for information on how to watch.
