Oct. 9, 2019 — The 8th place finish at the Pre-Nationals Race on Saturday keeps Berea soaring up in the polls. First it was annouced yesterday the Berea College Men’s Cross Country team is now the #1 ranked team in the South/Southeast Region jumping two spots, and today, the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has ranked the team 20th in the nation, 8 places higher than the previous week and the highest ranking for the Men’s program in the NCAA Divison III era.
The Mountaineers were ranked 28th going into Pre-Nationals, but after the dominatiing performance, where they out-ran their region rivals Emory University and Washington and Lee to surpass them in the polls. The Men also defeated the #17 Bates College and #18 Case Western University but were only able to surpass Case Western in the rankings. The Mountaineers also finshed 15 points behind #16 UW-Lacrosse.
The Mountaineers are the highest ranked team in the South/Southeast region as well as the USA South Athletic Conference. This is also the highest national ranking for any Berea College athletic program in the NCAA Division III era.
