Long-time Kentucky political campaign consultant Dale Emmons has been convicted of six charges relating to illegal contributions tied to former state lawmaker Jerry Lundergan.
Emmons, who is based out of Richmond, was hired by Jerry Lundergan to aid in his daughter’s, Allison Lundergan Grimes, 2014 senate campaign against Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. A court indictment shows that Emmons’ payment was taken from a contested sum of money tied to Lundergan.
Lundergan, former Chairman of the Kentucky Democratic Party, had previously been accused by prosecutors of illegally hiring consultants and vendors to work for the campaign. It was alleged that he had paid for their services using money out of his business account without requesting campaign reimbursements.
The most serious charges for each man could carry up to 20 years in prison.
