Cub Scouts of America – Pack 516, based out of St Clare Catholic Church in Berea, KY, welcomed a flight crew from Air Methods Kentucky Station 2 for a demonstration and tour of their medical transport helicopter.
The scouts were able to watch the helicopter approach and land before getting a chance to explore the helicopter itself. The flight crew talked with the scouts about the job they do and the importance of helicopter transport. The kids were then allowed to take an up-close look at the aircraft and climb inside while the crew continued to demonstrate their equipment.
Activities like this helicopter demonstration are an essential tool used by the cub scout leaders. “It allows the scouts to learn about and become familiar with aspects of their communities they might not otherwise have the chance to experience, “ said Assistant Cubmaster Steve Hensley. “Our goal here is to build knowledge that the kids can use later in life.”
Pack 516 has many similar activities planned over the next few months, including several community service projects. The Pack would like to thank the Air Methods crew for coming out and providing this experience for the scouts.
