September is National Preparedness Month, and the staff at the Madison County Emergency Operations Center have been hard at work to ensure that citizens know exactly what to do in case of an emergency.
WBON-TV spoke with Emergency Management Agency director Dustin Heiser to learn more about their upcoming annual exercise. The exercise, which takes place on September 18th, helps EMA and CSEPP (Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program) handle certain hazards more efficiently.
Citizens of the county will hear those familiar sirens during the exercise, but Heiser wants to reassure everyone that it will be just part of the drill. Heiser also says that you may see more emergency vehicles, like firetrucks, around the area. Officials from FEMA and the United States Army will be present during the exercise.
Heiser also stresses the importance of having an emergency kit full of the appropriate supplies. An emergency kit will be mailed to most residents of the county from the Emergency Operations Center.
