Richmond Police Department recently responded yet again to the Quality Quarters location in response to a potential hostage and kidnapping situation. According to the citation, police responded to find a man that reported that his wife was being held hostage by Thomas Jones.
According to the victim, the wife was being held by Jones and another man, Shawndell Wright at gunpoint in the hotel room. The husband told police that the two entered their room unlawfully, and Jones “pistol whipped” him in the face, causing visible injuries.
Jones, according to the citation, was allegedly owed money by the husband, and held the wife hostage in an effort to get him to pay up. Wright took the husband in a vehicle to attempt to collect the money while Jones stayed with the wife at the motel. According to the victim, Wright threatened him with the handgun and directed orders at him.
When officers arrived on the scene, Jones was seen fleeing the area and attempting to conceal the handgun as he said he knew he was a convicted felon.
When a car was searched, 34 Xanax bars were discovered which Jones admitted were his. As it was determined that he used a deadly weapon on the victims with intent to cause severe bodily injury, as well as the kidnapping, he was charged with multiple felonies.
Jones was charged with kidnapping of an adult, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, trafficking in a controlled substance, 2nd degree assault, 1st degree burglary, and tampering with physical evidence.
Wright was arrested and charged with kidnapping of an adult and 1st degree burglary. Both remain lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
