You might be noticing some paving work being done on the previous site of the Hines Motel in Richmond. It has now been a year since the site, which is located on Big Hill Avenue, has been bulldozed.
Occupants of the motel were evicted to make way for the site that is now owned by the Madison County Board of Education.
WBON-TV spoke with Madison County Schools Superintendent, David Gilliam, about how the school district plans to utilize the site to alleviate the traffic woes the Kindergarten Academy has experienced in the past.
“First of all, you’ll see a new parking lot there and a new entrance”, says Gilliam. “We want to alleviate traffic congestion… We certainly don’t want to add to that.”
According to Gilliam, the new roadway will ensure a safe flow of traffic through the former motel site, providing a safer passage for both students and parents.
The paving work is expected to be completed in mid-August.
