As was announced earlier this evening, pitcher Luis Castillo has been named to the National League roster for the 2019 Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
This is the first-ever All-Star nod for Castillo and the first time a Reds starting pitcher has been chosen for the Midsummer Classic since Alfredo Simon in 2014. The right-hander nicknamed “La Piedra” has emerged as the Reds’ ace this season, ranking third in the NL with a 2.47 ERA to go along with a 7-3 record and 115 strikeouts in 98 1/3 innings pitched.
Castillo began the season on fire, earning NL Pitcher of the Month honors for April. In his first seven starts, the Reds’ Opening Day starter posted a 1.45 ERA and held opposing batters to a meager .177 batting average.
Be sure to tune in to FOX on Tuesday, July 9 at 7:30 p.m. to see Castillo and the rest of the NL All-Stars take on the American League in the All-Star Game!
