Richmond City Commission Appoints New Fire Chief

The Richmond City Commission has appointed Assistant Fire Chief Sam Kirby to replace Chief Carmichael who resigned earlier this year. Kirby has been with the Richmond Fire Department since 2001. He said he is very excited to be chief and that hard work pays off.

The city has taken the first steps to begin construction of a playground accessible to children with disabilities. It remains to be decided if the playground will be built from scratch or if an existing playground will be added onto. The exact location of the playground remains undecided as well.

Lastly, Mayor Robert Blythe proclaimed April to be Richmond’s Hunger Awareness Month. He urged all of Richmond to come together to fight hunger. Members of the Empty Bowls Committee spoke about the upcoming Empty Bowls Project. The full story on the project is coming soon.
