Chalk Your Cues, Pool Is Now Legal On Sunday In Berea

For the first time since 1972, Bereans can enjoy a game of billiards, pigeon-hole, or pool on Sundays without breaking the law. Code of Ordinance 53.001 had been in effect for 47 years. The ordinance prohibited any person licensed to keep a pool table from allowing a game to be played on Sunday.

Any person caught in violation of the ordinance would be subjected to a fine between twenty five or three hundred dollars.

The vote to remove the ordinance was unanimously passed by the city council. Councilman John Payne, who introduced the ordinance to repeal 53.001, explained that he thinks laws should be revisited and examined, and if they are found to be outdated they should be removed.

Payne also added that if anyone in Berea had a pigeon hole table he would “Love the opportunity to play on it just once”.
