Madison Southern Baseball Coach Steps Down

Gene Combs stepped down as head coach of Madison Southern after four seasons to accept a position closer to home. Combs came to Madison Southern in 2015.

2015 in his first season as Eagles head coach he led the team to an 11-19 record, an improvement from 6-22 the previous season. In his second season he led the team to a winning record, 17-16 and a district runner-up finish. They fell to Western Hills 2-1 in the 11th region opening round. 2017 saw the team go 15-18 in the regular season but also saw the Eagles with one of their biggest wins in school history. The Eagles knocked off a top ten Madison Central team in the opening round of the 44th district tournament. They finished runner-up in the district that season and fell in the opening round of the region. Last season Coach Combs led the Eagles to an 18-13 record.

In four seasons as Eagles head coach Coach Combs went 61-66 overall and had two district runner-ups. He was 8-9 in district play. His teams were 3-1 versus Berea, 4-1 against Model and 1-7 versus Madison Central.
