The Colonels have played some big games this season, they played the number one team in the country earlier in Tennessee, they played Kansas State who sits at 19-6 on the season. They played league leaders Belmont, Austin Peay, and Murray State and tonight the Racers came into Alumni Coliseum tied for first in the OVC.

Murray State has one of the most exciting players in the country in Ja Morant who is the 8th leading scorer in the country at 24.3 points a game and leads the NCAA in assist per game with 10.1 a contest. Of Course the Colonels have their own All Conference player in Nick Mayo who sits at #11 in the scoring in the county at 23.1 a game and ranks 8th all time in OVC history in scoring. This game drew the attention of NBA scouts as four teams were represented with the Sacramento Kings, Dallas Mavericks, Charlotte Hornets, and Chicago Bulls in the house to see these two talented players.

EKU played without their starting point guard Kelvin Robinson out due to sickness and started three freshman along with Weaver and Mayo. Racers ran out to a quick lead and never trailed in the opening half leading by as many 18 points but the Colonels trimmed the deficit to 11 at the break 46-35. Ja Morant had 14 points for Murray State and the Racers shot 17-30 in the half. Colonels are led by Jomaru Brown, who got the start for Robinson,  who had 15 points and Nick Mayo’s 12 points and 6 rebounds. Colonels shoot 12-38 from the floor.

Second half saw the Racer keep their lead around the 13 point margin but with 13 minutes left EKU pulls within 8 points at 58-50 after a Peyton Broughton layup. a 14-0 run from Murray State put the game out of reach for the Colonels and they fall 102-70 at home to Murray State.

Colonels are led by Nick Mayo who has a double double with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Mayo now sits 5 rebounds from moving into 8th place all-time in Colonel history. Brown has 19 points and goes 10-10 from the free throw line in his first start, Tre King fouls out just missing a double double of his pwn with 10 points and 9 rebounds, Broughton 7 points, Dujuanta Weaver 5 points, and Lachlan Anderson with 3 points.

Biggest crowd in 12 years of 5640 fans to see the game and Murray States Ja Morant. Morant lives up to the hype just missing a triple double scoring 25 dishing out 14 assists and grabbing 8 rebounds. He scores his 1000th career point and sets the season record for assist in a season in OVC history in the game.

Tough loss for EKU as they sit in ninth place in the OVC with only four games left in the season, top eight teams make the playoffs. EKU hits the road this week , going to Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State. They return home to end the regular season against Austin Peay and Morehead State.
