Berea came into the quarterfinals of the All A Tournament off a close win over Wolfe County and Friday afternoon they faced another good team from Eastern Kentucky, this time the winners of the 16th region the West Carter Lady Comets. The Comets come in riding an 11 game winning streak.
The game started back and forth with Berea running out to a quick 4-0 start but West Carter scored 8 of the next 10 points and took a 6 point advantage to the 2nd quarter at 20-14. A 9-0 run for West Carter to start the 2nd put them up 13 and the Lady Pirates were able to get within 13 points but a three pointer at the horn gave the Comets a 35-19 lead at halftime. Poor shooting in the half for Berea, 7-16 from the field and the free throw line where they went 5-14 coupled with 13 turnovers. Adrienne Beggs led the way with 6 points at halftime along with Madison Howell who had 5 points.
The second half saw both teams struggle to score early, Berea finally got a basket 2 minutes in but West Carter outscored Berea 11-3 midway thorough the frame to take 46-24 lead and they never looked back. Berea could not overcome the poor shooting, 14-34 41% and at the free throw line 12-26. They end the game with 28 turnovers which resulted in 24 West Carter points.
For Berea Chesney Lovins with 11 points and 6 rebounds, Madison Howell with 9 points, Adrienne Beggs with 6 points and 7 rebounds, Raegan Stepp with 6 points, Mati Stepp 5 points and 4 assists, Melissa Gosney 2 points and Abigal Beard with a point.
