A Bale-ful Impact on the Local Economy: Hay Shortage Explained


This past weekend at the Madison County Fairgrounds, the annual Hay auction took place following the wettest year on record. Because of this, many may not be aware that there was a record breaking hay shortage this year, due to the large amounts of rain ruining parts of the integral crop.

We spoke to Agriculture Agent Brandon Sears, who says there was a premium on all bales because of this shortage, which has implications to the beef and cattle industries overall.
