Berea Man Drives Away, Runs from Police: Still ends up with Handful of Charges


A Berea man was taken into custody recently after he allegedly fled from police on foot and in his vehicle Monday when he knew he was wanted on multiple warrants. The police report that 34 year old Michael Shoopman was observed at a home and they knew he had multiple warrants out for his arrest.

Shoopman allegedly fled the area when he saw police, and was followed. After a foot and car chase, he was apprehended in a field. When Shoopman’s car was searched, 2 grams of suspected methamphetamine was discovered, and two checks from local businesses that did not allegedly belong to Shoopman. He was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, criminal possession of a forged instrument, fleeing and evading police both on foot and in a motor vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, and first degree bail jumping among other charges. He was taken to Madison County Detention Center.
