In the past week things have been busy in the area. Colonels are riding a 3 game winning streak, a former Madison Southern Eagle is transferring to EKU to play football and high school hoops are in full swing.
Former Madison Southern All-State player Trey Livingood will be transferring from Marshall to Eastern Kentucky University to play football in January. He red-shirted last season and will have 4 seasons to play for the Colonels.
The EKU men’s basketball team stands at 6-4 on the season and riding a 3 game winning streak. The Colonels went on the road December 1st to play High Point and won that game on a Nick Mayo buzzer beater 70-69. They returned home Wednesday night and defeated USC-Upstate 79-77 and this past Saturday night on another Nick Mayo buzzer beater they defeat Northern Kentucky 76-74. Nick Mayo was named OVC Player Of The Week. He averaged 20.5 points 9 rebounds and 4 blocks this past week to earn the honor. He leads the OVC in scoring at 24.4 points a game and is second in rebounding at 9.2 in the conference.
Madison Central Boy’s basketball split a couple of games this week, falling to #6 Clark County in Winchester 57-46 and defeating Somerset 69-59. Indians sit at 2-2 on the season. The Madison Southern Eagles went 1-2 this past week with a win over Powell County in their home opener. Eagles sit at 3-3 on the season. The Engineers of Estill County went 1-2 this past week and sit at 1-4 on the early season.
Girl’s basketball on the hardwood this week saw Madison Central go 1-1 with a win over East Jessamine. Lady Indians are 2-2 on the year. The Lady Eagles started the season 3-0 but dropped a couple of games this past week. They stand at 3-2. The Lady Engineers went 1-1 this past week with a 3 point win over Jackson City. They are 2-3 on the year.
