(Estill County Fire Department)- Last night, the Estill County Fire Department responded to a call about fire in the woods as a result of a downed electric line in the Tipton Ridge Road and Driftwood Drive area. Upon arrival, officials reported that they found what caused all the electrical outages and flashes that were happening early this morning after midnight. A tree had fell on a main transmission line.
Crews remained on scene until electric company was able to re-route the electric and they were able to extinguish the burning tree.
Disaster was also averted with a fire in Powell county this morning, where there were no injuries following an overnight blaze. An elderly woman had reportedly woken to the sound of fire and was able to exit her home in time. However, the house was halfway engulfed in flames when the crews arrived. Windy conditions made it even more difficult to fight the fire.
The home was announced as a total loss, despite the best efforts of the fire crews. Estill county also assisted on the scene. It seems at this time that the cause of the inferno was electrical in nature.
