EKU Basketball Continues Road Trip Head To #6 Tennessee Wednesday Night


Fresh off their trip to the Virgin Islands the Colonels are set for a big early season game against one of the top teams in the SEC. Colonels are 3-3 on the young season and this will be the third ranked team that they will face. Marshall was a top 25 team, Kansas State was 12th, and the Volunteers are #6.

EKU will be led into the game by senior Nick Mayo who will be playing in his 100th game as a Colonel, he has started every game he has played in. Mayo is averaging 25 points a game which is 2nd best in the OVC and 9th in the country. He has 1732 career points, he needs 100 more points to tie the all-time record at EKU. Mayo also averages 9.2 rebounds a game. Lachlan Anderson having a great season averages 10 points a game and 6 rebounds, both totals are good for 2nd best on the team. Jomaru Brown was voted the OVC Co-Freshman of the Week on Monday. Brown came off the bench and scored a career-high 21 points in the win over Kennesaw State last Monday. He added four rebounds and two assists. He is averaging 8.5 points a game.


EKU currently leads the OVC in turnover margin (+4.0). The Colonels rank second in the league in steals (9.0 steals-per-game) and offensive rebounds (13.5 offensive rebounds-per-game). EKU ranks 20th in the country in scoring offense (86.3 points-per-game).


Tennessee (4-1) lost to No. 2 Kansas, 87-81, last Friday.
The Vols are led by the duo of Grant Williams (21.6 points-per-game) and Admiral Schofield (15.4 points-per-game).
This will be the fifth all-time meeting between EKU and Tennessee. The Vols leads the series, 4-0. The two teams last met on Nov. 25, 2005.
