Help Those Less Fortunate By Donating Your Eyeglasses With Richmond Lion’s Club

There are many giving trees throughout the area..all to help those less fortunate. However, one in particular at Gillum’s Sports Lounge in Richmond is there to give sight to those that need it.

According to Lion’s Club Member Lynda Wooten, the program began with the help of famous Helen Keller in 1925 in order to help those that cannot afford eyeglass prescriptions. The tree, which can be found in the entrance to the restaurant, is currently adorned with dozens of both eyeglasses and sunglasses, which will go directly to those that need them in third world counties.

Wooten explains that any and all donations are accepted, and will be sanitized and scrutinized by Optometrists before being donated overseas.

She explains in the video story seen here that they have been doing this program for years, giving sight to those that cannot afford expensive prescriptions.

Even lenses can be donated, in a box at the base of the tree, all thanks to Lion’s Club Richmond and the Lion’s Club International.

The tree will remain at Gillum’s in the Richmond Mall until January 1st.
