Weekend In Review Indians & Colonels With Comeback Wins In Football Colonel basketball Wins 1st game Of Season


Big Weekend of sports in the area with Madison Central and EKU football with comeback wins and the Colonels win their 1st game of the season on the road.

Madison Central hosted district rival Tates Creek in second round action on a cold night with a trip to the regional final on the line. Indians trailed through out the game but within a minute they score 13 unanswered points in the 4th quarter and the defense does it’s job holding the Commodore’s out of the end zone. Creek had a chance to get the ball back with about a minute and a half left but the punt hits a Commodore and the Indians recover the fumble and hold on for a 13-10 victory. Derrick Miller passes for 93 yards and rushes for 26 more and has 2 touchdowns. Freddy Chenault goes for 61 yards on the ground. Ethan Hahn with 36 rushing yards and he catches what turns out to be the game winning TD, one of his two receptions for 67 yards. Delsin Tsotigh with 36 rushing yards on three carries. Blake Muntz has two catches for 26 yards and a score. Muntz also adds a sack on defense. Kenton Humphrey and Nathan Storie with interceptions in the game and the defense recovers 3 fumbles. They will host Cooper Friday night at home for a regional championship, it would be the first for the Indians.

Eastern Kentucky welcomed Robert Morris for senior day. The Colonels were heavy favorites but that didn’t matter to Robert Morris as they came in and took a 23-16 lead at halftime. EKU fights back and sends the game into overtime. Colonels score a touchdown in the first overtime and Robert Morris answers that with a TD of their own and they decide to roll the dice and go for the win with a two point try that is deflected away to preserve the win for the Colonels. Freshman quarterback Parker McKinney started the game after leading the Colonels to a come from behind win at Austin Peay last week. he goes 17-34 for 186 yards through the air with a TD and a pick. He adds 55 yards with his legs. Senior LJ Scott scores three times in his final game at home and adds 82 yards, Darryl McClesky with 10 yards. Sophomore receiver BK Smith with a team high 4 catches for 48 yards, Neiko Creamer with 3 catches for 44 yards, Jackson Beerman with 3 receptions for 41 yards and a TD, Dan Paul 1 catch for 29 yards, and Jaelin Carter with 4 catches for 26 yards. EKU with 11 penalties for 110 yards and they turn it over once. They force 2 turnovers, a fumble and a pick.

EKU basketball played at Chattanooga Saturday night looking for their 1st win of the season. Nick Mayo was limited in the first half with foul trouble and without him the Colonels found themselves down as many as 13 and trailed 45-36 at halftime. The Mocs went up by 11 points with less than 12 minutes left in the game and that is when Mayo stepped up in a big way. He scores 17 straight for the Colonels and then scores the final 10 for Eastern Kentucky including two free throws with 16 seconds left to secure the win. Mayo is now 20-21 from the foul line this season. Nick Mayo finishes with a career high 40 points and moves into 4th place on the all-time scoring list. Mayo has 40 points and 12 blocks in the win. JacQuess Hobbs scores 13 points, Peyton Broughton with 8 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists, Dujuanta Weaver and Tre King with 6 points each, Kelvin Robinson with 4 points and Jordan Oakley with 2 points. Colonels play Midway Tuesday night at home.
