Estill County To Host Rival Breathitt County


The Engineers are set to host the Bobcats in-game two of district play and the winner could find themselves in first place after Friday night. Estill (2-3) coming off a 45-30 win over Morgan County take on Breathitt (3-3) as they come off a shutout win over Knott County Central. Estill county has tied last season’s win total and are looking to avenge last year’s 36-22 loss in Jackson. Breathitt opened the season losing three straight but have won the last three games.

In the win last week Estill rushed for 373 yards and quarterback Ty Niece rushed for 3 scores. On the season Estill ranks 9th in rushing in class 3A despite not having a player ranked in the top 25 rushing individually. The rushing attack is a team effort with Coben Clem leading the team with 295 rushing yards, Justin Stamper has 282 yards, Chris Rigdon adds 234 rushing yards. Niece had 3 rushing scores last week which gives him 4 on the season and that is tied with Clem for team high. Engineers have 1286 yards on the ground and 16 touchdowns. Estill averages 26 points a game this season. Defensively Travon Durham leads the team with 3 interceptions.

The Bobcats come into the match up putting points up, averaging nearly 30 a game and are led by quarterback Braxton O’Hara. On the season he has thrown for 674 yards and 10 touchdowns. That is good for 8th best in class 3A. His favorite target is Brandyn Slaughter who has caught 24 balls for 461 yards and 6 touchdowns. His 6 touchdowns are tied for most in 3A. On the ground Tyson Gross is ranked 17th best in the class with 539 yards and 9 touchdowns.
