Eastern Kentucky had 5 turnovers last week against Marshall, they were only 5-15 on 3rd down conversions and through all that adversity were only down a touchdown 7 in the 3rd quarter. Colonels defense forced Marshall into 4 turnovers of their own and blocked a kick. On this week’s Inside EKU Sports show Head Coach Mark Elder spoke with the voice of the Colonels Greg Stotelmyer about last weeks game. After the first two games Elder thinks the team is in a good place, too many mistakes versus Marshall. In the first two games he is pleased with the defense overall. Looking toward this weekend Bowling Green comes in at 0-2 but both losses are against Power 5 schools, week one they went to Oregon and last week they hosted Maryland. The Falcons were up 10-0 early over the Ducks and held a halftime lead last week so this week will be another test before the Colonels open OVC play next week. Coach Elder wants to see his team play with great effort once again and clean up the discipline issues and play a cleaner game this week.

Through the 1st two games the Colonels have rushed for 543 yards and average 375 yards of total offense per game. Darryl McCluskey has rushed for 143 yards with LJ Scott adding 121 yards and 3 touchdowns. In the first two games Colonels have used all three quarterbacks and expect that to continue this week. Red-shirt freshman has started both games and has thrown for 131 yards and a touchdown. Preseason All OVC tight end Dan Paul is tied for the team lead in receptions with 4 for 49 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Jackson Beerman and Jaelin Carter also have 4 catches each. Neiko Creamer has caught two passes for only 20 yards but in his defense he is drawing a lot of attention from the opposing defenses. Defensively the Colonels have 12 tackles for loss as a unit and have gotten to the other teams quarterback 6 times. Pre-season All American Aaron Patrick off to a great start with 10 tackles, 2.5 sacks through two games. Leodis Moore has 11 tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss and blocked a kick last week.

Bowling Green, through the first two games have had better luck throwing the ball than running it but that is due to them playing catch up in those games. Sophomore Jarret Doege has completed 60% of his passes for 396 yards and 5 touchdowns, he has thrown 3 interceptions. The leading rusher is Andrew Clair who has 157 yards. The Falcons are yet to score a touchdown on the ground this season. Scott Miller leads the team in receiving with 16 catches for 177 yards and 3 scores, Quinton Morris has 8 receptions for 120 yards.

This will be another test for the Colonels as they face a FBS opponent but they lead the all time series 3-1. Last time the two met was August 28, 2003 when Bowling Green won their only game in the series 63-13. Make plans to join Michael Watkins and Donald Foster at Kroger Saturday afternoon starting at 2:30 as they host the EKU tailgate show to get you ready for the game.
