Game one of the Roy Kidd Bowl saw two of the top teams in their classes in the Knights of Lexington Catholic and the Eagles of Madison Southern. The Eagles won the toss and deferred to the second half. Catholic took the early lead after a seven play sixty-three yard drive was capped by a Keith Brinkmann two yard touchdown run. The Eagles answer that drive with a nice seven play drive of their own with Isiah Buttry scoring on a one yard plunge, the extra point was blocked which was an omen of things to come. The next possession for Lex Cath saw a fourth and nine with 3:29 left when an illegal substitution by Southern made it fourth and five. The Knights elect to go for the first down and Beau Allen tried to punt it away but sophomore Clay Bunch blocks it. Unable to move the ball Eagles push the Knights deep in their own territory but a long pass by Allen and a forty-three yard touchdown run by Brinkman makes it 14-6. Catholic with an onside kick and recovery gives them the ball around midfield. Two plays and Keith Brickman’s third touchdown of the quarter Knights led 21-6 after one. Opening possession of second quarter for Madison Southern saw the new quarterback Tobais Storm elude two would be tacklers and the Eagles go ten plays for sixty-five yards and a score when Buttry gets his second touchdown of the half from two yards out making, once again though the kick was blocked making it 21-12 with 9:54 left in the half. With 3:05 left Eagles get caught in the end zone for a safety and on the resulting kickoff Nathan Schnurr takes it fifty-five yards for a touchdown making it 30-12. Eagles go three and out giving the ball back to Beau Allen and he delivers a twenty-eight touchdown pass to Jackson Corbett making the score 37-12 at halftime. Tobias Storm led the rushing attack for Madison Southern with 93 yards on 12 carries, and was 4-9 for 38 yards through the air. Alex Knuckles with 40 yards on the ground and Buttry with 15 yards and two touchdowns. Clay Tinsley with two receptions for 22 yards.
Second half the Knights take the opening possession sixty-eight yards and a score when Allen gets his second touchdown pass, a forty-three yard completion to Trenton Neuer. Knights add one more touchdown in the fourth quarter and the final score was 51-12. Tobias Storm ends the night going 5-13 through the air for 47 yards, he adds 120 yards on the ground on 17 carries. Buttry finishes with 48 yards and 2 scores, Knuckles with 40 yards, Walt Smith with 12 yards. Eagles rush for 200 yards in the game. Clay Tinsley with 3 catches for 31 yards, Seth Shepherd, Xavier Strothman, and Jordan Casteel all with a catch. Clay Bunch led the way with six tackles, two for a loss, TJ Eestes with 6 tackles as well. Madison Southern will go on the road next week to face Garrard County.
