EKU Basketball Hosting Youth Camp

Eastern Kentucky Head Coach A.W. Hamilton held his first basketball camp this week at Alumni Coliseum. WBON spoke with Coach Hamilton about the camp.Hamilton said that when he got hired to be the coach there was no camp scheduled. The Colonels had three players transfer so tone of the main focus of the staff was to fill those voids and hit the recruiting trail but he knew he wanted to have a camp.

The camp had forty six campers composed of boys and girls of all ages. One of the most important things the coaches and players wanted to impress on the campers is to have fun. A.W. said that some of his favorite memories as young player was going to basketball camps and having fun and meeting the players and coaches. He mentioned that Nick Mayo and Tre King have been having a lot of fun with the campers.

Basketball camp is not only about basketball though, over the three day event the Colonels have had guest speakers. On day one the EKU cheerleader came and performed some stunts and routines for the campers and spoke with them. Day two had Richmond Mayor Jim Barnes speaking to the group and on the final day Athletic Director Skip Lochmueller will speak.

You will stay have two more chances to get your young players involved with the EKU basketball camp. June 25-28 Coach Hamilton will take the camp to Georgetown and will have one more camp in Richmond July 31-August 2nd. To sign up for either camp visit bigtime.camp.
