EKU Baseball Players Honored By Conference


EKU baseball was picked to finish last in the Ohio Valley Preseason but this team wouldn’t listen to the so called experts. They came out and went on the road and knocked nationally ranked teams #15 Virginia, and #11 Vanderbilt. Colonels went to #13 Louisville and had a chance to win before falling 4-2 in that one. Colonels finish season as the six seed and face the number three seed Morehead State today at 12:30.

This week three Colonels were honored for their season performance. Freshman Daniel Harris was named to the all newcomer team. Harris started 53 games and had a .270 batting average. He finished with five home runs, ten doubles, 2 triples, while driving in thirty two runs. He also scored thirty seven runs. Sophomore Nick Howie was named to All OVC second team. He started 53 games, hit .317, had ten doubles, a triple, nine home runs and drove in forty six runs. He scored thirty eight runs and was fifteen for seventeen in stolen bases on the year.

Junior Alex Holderbach was named first team ALL OVC. He started 56 games had a .371 batting average, he had eleven doubles, two triples along with eighteen home runs. He knocked in seventy five runs and scored fifty four runs. He had .700 slugging percentage while walking thirty seven times and striking out only thirty four times. Behind the plate he had one error and a .997 fielding percentage. Nationally Holderbach ranked ninth in home runs, tied for first in RBI and 50th in batting average.
