EKU Baseball Continues Their Winning Ways

EKU baseball, winners of three in a row, stepped out of conference play to welcome East Tennessee State to Richmond Tuesday afternoon. The Colonels enter play 9-3 at home on the season.
The Buccaneers got things started quick scoring three runs in the second inning when Sean Kearney reached on an error allowing the first run of the game to score. Aaron Maher with a base hit to score a pair and after an inning and a half Colonels were down 3-0. In the fourth inning Maher with another RBI with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0. In the home half of the fourth Colonels battle back when Will Johnson knocked home the first run of the game. Daniel Harris IV got a two run single to get the Maroons within a run and they weren’t finished yet. with Chris Botsoe at second base a hit and run was called for and he scores from second base on a ground ball to second tying the game at four. In the fifth inning Jacob Abbott with his first RBI of the season gave EKU the lead at 5-4. Ryland Kerr with an RBI in the sixth inning made it 6-4. In the seventh inning East Tennessee State tried to make things interesting loading the bases with no outs. Andrew McWhorther comes in striking out the first hitter he faces and then he induces a double play to end the threat. Bottom of the seventh the EKU tacks on a couple more runs to make it 8-4 and in the home half of the eighth inning Alex Holderbach with his eighth home run on the season making it 9-4 and that was the final score.
Eastern wins their fourth in a row and are now 10-2 at home. With the win they now stand a game under .500 at 16-17. Ryland Kerr went 3-5 with an RBI, Harris with two hits and three RBI, and Holderbach with the home run. Jaxon Blair with the victory evening his record at 1-1. EKU returns to action Wednesday afternoon at home versus Northern Kentucky at 6.
