We’ve Got Your Back! Leadership Madison County Aims to Help Foster Children

Leadership Madison County has a unique project they have been working on, that seeks to outfit foster children with backpacks filled with hygiene and self-care products for when they move homes.

The mission of the project, called ‘We’ve Got Your Back’, is as follows: (from their Facebook page)

The 2017-18 Leadership Madison County class has chosen to address the issue of foster care, a growing area of concern in Madison County and Kentucky. There are more than 8500 children in out-of-home care in Kentucky. Oftentimes when a child is removed from their home, they take any belongings with them in a trash bag. We would like to provide social workers with backpacks full of various age appropriate items for the children . . . to send a message of hope and love, and to let them know that, as leaders of Madison County, “We’ve got your back!”
Our goal is to provide 200 backpacks for various age groups to the local Department for Community Based Services. We estimate that each backpack will cost approximately $20. We are asking businesses, churches, and members of the community to do one of two things:

1. Make a financial donation towards this effort. LMC is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 charitable organization. Perhaps your church could sponsor 5 backpacks ($100), 10 backpacks ($200) or 25 backpacks ($500).
2. Have a “drive” in which you request a particular item from your community or small group. Note: This is a GREAT way to involve children’s or youth groups. After all, these are often their classmates!
Together, we can make a positive difference for the children of Madison County. Thank you for your consideration!
