Indians drop final game of regular season
It was cold outside but things were hot inside the H Douglas complex for Covington Catholic and Madison Central. The top team in the Cantrall rankings the Colonels of Catholic played the #2 team in Madison Central. It was senior night as the Indians honered six. Tyler Crafton, Dustin Geralds, Kenyon McKee, Jacori Miller, Isiah Minter, and Scott Quaid. Cov Cath comes in with only two losses to Kentucky teams, Fern Creek and Cooper. The Indians have six losses with all the losses to top 20 teams. One of the largest crowds to watch a Central game in a long time turned out. This could be a preview of the state championship game as both teams are on opposite sides of the Sweet Sixteen brackets.
The first half saw the Indians come out a little tight something head coach Allen Feldhaus would contribute to the atmosphere of the game. Colonels opened on a 14-3 run to start with Iowa commit C.J. Frederick scoring 6 points in that run. Indians get a basket from Isiah Cozart to break the run but back to back baskets by Aiden Ruthsatz made it 18-7 afer a quarter. The second quarter saw the Indians go on a 9-0 to pull back within 18-14. A free throw by big man Jake Walter, an Xavier commit, and basket by A.J. Mayer, the footba star, made it 21-14. An offensive rebound and out back by Cozart made it 23-20 Colonels on top the half ended with Catholic on top 30-26. CJ Frederick with 11 points at half to lead all scorers. For the Indian Cozart and Dustin Gerald both had 8 points. Indians shot 10-19 from the floor and knocked down only one three pointer.
The second half Frederick score the opening basket but the Indians go on 5-1  run and tie the game at 33. During that stretch Colonel big man Walters picks up a technical foul which gave him four and he had to go to the bench. Momentum had swung to the Indians but a technical foul on Jacori Miller with 6:10 left in the 3rd sparked a 12-2 run for Covington Catholic. Mr. Basketball favorite Frederick scored 15 points in the 3rd to help them push out to a 48-39 lead after three. Dustin Gerald knocks in a basket to begin the fourth and it was a seven point game but that’s as close as it got. Catholic ends the game on a 15-4 run and win 63-45. C.J. Frederick ends with 32 points and 7 rebounds. As a team Covington Catholic does not commit a turnover in the second half and only has four for the game. They shoot over 50% from the floor.
