Sheriff’s Department Explains School Resource Officers and Tips Following School Shootings

2018 has already seen 8 school shootings in the first seven weeks of the year, the most recent being yesterday in Florida.

WBON-TV spoke to Deputy Michael Stotts of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department who explained which school areas the Madison County Sheriff’s Department controls, which include 3 elementary schools, and soon the 4th when the new Boonesborough is finished next fall.

Stotts also explained that most schools have undergone active shooter training in Madison County, which is overseen by the Kentucky State Police. He also provided tips for parents and students alike, as well as teachers when these situations occur. Assuring parents that there is law enforcement present near all schools, Stotts added that any threats, whether seemingly serious or not, should be reported immediately.
