Today, in celebration of Martin Luther King Junior day, marches took place both in Richmond and Berea. In Berea, there was a full day of speakers and performances following the march.
The group filed out of the church after hearing the reasons why we march on this day from lead pastor Kent Gilbert of Union church, Mayor Steve Connelly, and President of Berea college Lyle Roelofs. The group was led in song and purposefully filed down through the campus despite the chilly air.
The mayor reminded those at the church that not only is 2018 marking 50 years since MLK was assassinated, but also 50 years since a shooting occurred in Berea because of racial tensions that left two dead.
