WOLFE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Rescue teams are looking for a pair of hikers who have gone missing in Red River Gorge.

The Wolfe County Search & Rescue Team says they were contacted about 8:30 p.m. Sunday by the mother of one of the hikers.

She told them her son and his girlfriend should have been finished with their hike by noon and returned to Indiana by 6 p.m.

The couple are in their 20s; the man is named Nicholas and the woman’s name is Lauren.

The rescue group says the couple’s vehicle was found at the Bison Way Trail head. A quick search was conducted by the Menifee County Search & Rescue Team in the Indian Staircase area but no one was found.

Rescue groups are launching a wider search this morning.

Anyone making contact with the two missing people is asked to call 911.
