In Week 10 of the Madison County Citizens Police Academy, students were able to act out hostage situations and respond to an emergency. The Emergency Response Unit is comprised of 10 Richmond Police Officers who dedicate extra time into training for such high-stress situations. Kentucky State Police Post Seven also has a unit, which solely work hostage and active-shooter instances.
Students also learned in the classroom portion how the body reacts to stress in such situations, and how this can affect decision making.
Watch the video, next week the students meet with the K9 Unit for the final week.
