Library Director Weighs in on Banned Books Week, Recent National News

Following the recent discussions to pull classic To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee from curriculum at a Mississippi school, WBON-TV went to Madison County Library Director Ruthie Maslin to learn more about why certain pieces of literature get challenged.

Maslin said that she could understand both sides to the issue, and that the library recently recognized banned books week, in which much of the same discussion was facilitated at the library.

She explained that the week takes a look at the ten pieces of literature that are commonly banned or challenged by groups across the country, and that every year the list changes.

Watch the video to get the scoop on which books usually end up on the list, and to see if Madison County has ever had to pull a book from the shelves!
