Today on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University, President Michael Benson delivered his annual Convocation Address to faculty and staff of the University. Benson spoke to WBON TV’s Marisa Hempel and said that the convocation rings in the beginning of the new school year for him, and there are many things to be excited for in the upcoming semester and 2017-2018 school year.
Besides covering the extensive list of projects for campus revitalization, many of which Benson remarked are nearing completion, he also touched on the ongoing changes the University has to make with budget cuts and performance-based funding coming from the State level.
Benson also remarked that many of the maintenance and grounds crews who were outsourced to Aramark effective the first of this month are taking advantage of opportunities given by EKU to get degrees, and that all are happy despite the recent changes.
He added that Eastern Kentucky University, in light of the recent events in Charlottesville, is an all-inclusive place and he emphasizes that as the president he wants all students to feel safe on campus.
