With school in session this week in Madison County, WBON TV visited the Madison County Bus Garage to get an inside look at the preparation that goes into keeping our children safe every school year. Transportation Director for Madison County Schools Shane Lakes sat down with Marisa Hempel and told her the ins and outs of the busiest days of the year for the drivers and workers at the garage: the two days prior to the first school bell going off.
Lakes also reiterated safety tips for when Madison County’s fleet of buses start their routes Wednesday, as well as explained the training that goes into a bus driver’s job.
He also warned that children will probably be a little late getting home for the first few weeks of school as drivers and students get acclimated to the new school year. However, Lakes assured all parents that with safety forefront in the minds of all those that work for Madison County Schools, no child will ever be left behind.
Keep these tips in mind in the next few weeks whether you have youngsters on the buses or not, as all drivers need to be aware of bus safety now that school is in session!
