A man has been arrested in connection with a robbery last month.
Police say July 29 just after 11 a.m., they were called to the Cash Express on Mini Mall Drive in reference to an armed robbery.
They say the suspect entered the business wearing a black mask and brandished a firearm. He ordered the employee to the back of the building where he used black tape to secure her to a chair. He then removed cash from the registers and safe before leaving through the back door.
Kentucky State Police told local police on Aug. 7 that they had information about a suspect vehicle in an armed robbery they were working, that had just occurred. The vehicle was located on Paint Lick Road, and a traffic stop was eventually conducted on I-75. Evidence was located that connected the driver to the Cash Express robbery.
Donald VanWinkle, 46, of Berea, is facing charges of first-degree robbery and kidnapping. Additional charges were added Aug. 9, including first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and drug paraphernalia possession after a search warrant was executed at his residence.
